Comfortable performing in any setting, be it a pub or a concert hall, Kirsten Z Cairns is a soprano who sings classical, folk and popular music. She has extensive performance experience, having appeared frequently on stage in shows, as an oratorio soloist, as a recitalist and singing at weddings, memorials and other private events.
Kirsten is much in demand as a performer of traditional music, especially Scots song, and she has given lecture performances about the music and life of the Scottish bard, Robert Burns. When she gets home to Scotland, Kirsten works for the charity ‘Music in Hospitals’, singing repertoire ranging from folks songs through musical theatre to operatic arias, at care homes and hospitals across the country.
Also sought after as a performer at weddings, Kirsten draws on her extensive repertoire and experience to help couples choose the perfect music for their big day. Kirsten holds a Masters in Music and a Certificate of Postgraduate Study from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Voice from the New England Conservatory. As Director of Opera Studies at the Boston Conservatory for some years, Kirsten’s knowledge of vocal repertoire and performance practice is considerable.
